OCC Challenger Series 2007 Cup
Invitation to our Guests

The Omaha Cricket Club (OCC) is thrilled to announce the commencement of the OCC Challenger Series 2007. The tournament will be held over 2 weekends starting September 15th in Omaha and Lincoln NE.

Baseball and Cricket at the professional level are the best known members of the family of related bat and ball games. Despite these similarities the 2 sports also have many differences in play and in strategies. For more detail description on the game of cricket from inception to its ever growing Perennial fantasies worldwide. Please follow the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket.

In 1994 a group of passionate people like of Paresh Chotubhai, Sethupathi Thangamuthu, Srinivas Chilukuri, Floyd Campbell, Vish Viswanadhan and many more came together to form the Omaha Cricket Club. The intension was to grow, develop and play the game that we all love. Lincoln Cricket Club (LCC) was formed in 2001 and the two teams have been helping each other since both on and off the field.

The club has seen a lot in the past 17 years and thanks to the efforts of people like Bhaskar Krishna, Dr.Ravi Kalaga, Srinivas Malkapuram, Swarith Agarwal, Sudheer Ponnappan, Ram Prasad Cheruku, Francis Origanti and all the members of OCC and LCC, the cricket spirit lives on. Over the years we have matured into a larger organization and aim to promote the game of cricket not only in Omaha and in Midwest region but also throughout the country.

With the above goal in mind, we at OCC organized our 1st edition of Challenger Series in Sept’ 06 and the unprecedented success of it and attention by many others has encouraged us to continue the legacy that we started last year. The league phase matches will be held on 15th and 16th Sep and will be held in Omaha and Lincoln. The Semi-Finals will be played on Sep 22nd and Finals on Sep 23rd.

On behalf of OCC and CRICKET, it’s our pleasure to host more than 10 teams from 5 neighboring states (IA, KS, MN, ND and NE) to participate in this edition of OCC Challenger Series. Our huge success last year has drawn immediate attention among other teams in the respective states and also as far as Denver, CO. Due to the limited facilities at the Omaha ground we are able to host only 10 teams this year. With the continued support from the city and benevolent sponsors, we hope to organize this tournament on a larger scale next year with even higher number of teams participating.

One of the important highlights of the last year’s tournament was the Saturday night Banquet which had lots of mouth watering food (read it spicy) and fun, focusing on the development of cricket in the United States. Each team spoke about their vision of cricket in the future generations. To continue the spirit that was kindled last year we are organizing the Banquet this year on September the 15th.
We cordially invite you, with your family and friends to take part in this fabulous fun filled athletic Banquet night on Sep 15th at 7:00pm. We would also like to invite you to watch the games at the NP Dodge Park in Omaha over the weekends of Sep 15th and Sep 22nd.

Once again the OCC is proud to invite you to its 2nd OCC Challenger Series. Do join us to appreciate the talent that is coming from various states of the Midwest region, the hot and spicy food at the ground, all the media coverage (TV, Newspapers and Radio) and above all the beautiful game of CRICKET.

Honorable Mayor of the City of Omaha is invited to throw our first pitch and to present the trophies to the winners.
